What is Mug?
Mug is a facial communication app designed for unfiltered, authentic moments. It has two key features:
- Mugshots: When you send a photo or video (a “Mug”), your friend’s reaction is recorded the moment they open it and sent back to you as a Mugshot.
Chat Thumbnails: In text chat, every time you send a message, your front-facing camera captures a snapshot of your face at that exact moment, making every conversation more expressive
How does Mug work?

- Chat Thumbnails: Every text message you send includes a snapshot of your face at that moment, so each message has a unique, real-time reaction.
Is Mug free to use?
Yes, Mug is completely free to download and use.
What happens to my messages and Mugshots?
- Mugshots and media disappear after being viewed.
- You can clear conversations when deleting chats.
Can I turn off the Mugshot or Chat Snapshot feature?
No, Mug requires camera access to function. If your camera is disabled, you won’t be able to use Mug.
- To turn your camera back on, go to:
iPhone Settings > Privacy & Security > Camera > Enable Mug
How do I invite my friends to Mug?
You can invite friends by sharing your Mug profile link or using the Invite Friends option in the app.
Is Mug private and secure?
Yes, Mug does not store messages or Mugshots permanently, and your data is never shared with third parties.
Can I block or report someone?
Yes, you can block users and report inappropriate behavior from the chat settings.
Why is my Mugshot blurry?
Mugshots start blurred and only clear up when you open them. If your Mugshot stays blurry, check your internet connection.
How do I delete my account?
You can delete your account anytime from Settings > Delete Account.
